VOLUNTEERING

Join Our Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Volunteer Program in Kenya

Overview: Looking to make a positive impact on the environment? Join our Kenya Conservation Volunteer Program, perfect for those interested in green conservation projects in Africa. This program offers a unique chance to protect wildlife and support local communities near wildlife areas.

Location: Our project is based in Central Kajiado, within the Matapato Rangelands, a 3200 sq km area on the northern edge of the Amboseli National Park Ecosystem. Here, we work to reduce human-wildlife conflicts that are common in the area.

Project Highlights:

  • Plant trees to restore habitats
  • Participate in wildlife education outreach
  • Live in the stunning wilderness of Kenya
  • Gain practical veterinary experience in wildlife conservancies
  • Learn animal care skills and help rescue wildlife
  • Protect endangered species such as leopards, lions, and elephants
  • Support rangers in national parks and engage in anti-poaching efforts

Project Activities: Volunteers will help create educational materials to teach communities about reducing human-wildlife conflicts. Training includes map reading, GPS and radio communication, animal identification, tracking, and first aid. Volunteers also work in tree nurseries, set up camera traps, and patrol for poaching traps.

Arrival & Orientation: After booking your placement, arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. A staff member will welcome you. The next day, orientation will cover the project's mission, expectations, and an introduction to the local community and project site.

Accommodation: Volunteers stay in a volunteer house or wild camp managed by our local team. Three meals a day are provided. Accommodations are clean and shared by gender. Wi-Fi and warm water are not guaranteed, and volunteers should bring a sleeping mat, sleeping bag, and pillow for travel and weekends away.

Age Requirement: Our program is for anyone sixteen years and above who loves service and social experiences with people from all over the world. We also accepts volunteers of 15+ years of age if they are in a group with a guardian or supervisor above 18years.

Volunteers under 15 years old are only considered when accompanied by a parent/guardian. There isn’t a maximum age limit, though a reasonable fitness level is necessary. Families are encouraged to apply and are welcome!

VISAS

Kenya has abolished visa requirements for all foreign visitors from 1 January 2024, and instead implemented an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) system. Most visitors to must obtain an eTA prior to travel unless they are citizens of eTA-exempted countries.

From 1 January 2024, citizens of all countries except listed below must apply for an eTA in advance. Applications can be submitted up to 3 months prior to travel and must be submitted at least 3 days in advance. eTA fee is 30 USD (approximately 4,500 KES). Proof of reservation at the hotel where you plan to stay is required (if staying with friends, an invitation letter is also acceptable).

WEEKENDS AND FREE-TIME

Over the weekends or evenings, participants are free to eat out and explore the different delights that Kenya has to offer. We arrange city day tours and long-weekend safaris. No matter what your interests, there is always something for everyone to enjoy!
